cover art and a jogging mix.

So I've spent the last 3 days cloistered in my office working on layouts and printing up the AMAZING FULL COLOUR 50 PAGE EPIC called "Avanti"  which means, "lets go" in Italian.  For any of you that were privvy to my sketchbook and saw the drawings in real life, there's a couple pages of writing that you've never seen, plus one exciting extra page that I added after the fact, because in order to make the signature work it needed to be there!  Excitement!  Try and guess which page it was.
I also bought myself a fantastic chocolate brown coloured HP printer, and I'm experimenting with printing the book myself since colour prints are expensive.  So far, the quality is better than I would get at a print shop, but it takes a fair chunk of time.  I've been sitting in front of the computer for 8 hours a day for three days.  I hope I never have the misfortune of an office job, because my back and hips are burning.  Today at work I stood around as much as I could because sitting at my desk was agony, fortunately the kids were really annoying so I got to run around a lot yelling.  When I got home I went for a 5km run and the endorphin rush was fan-freaking-tastic.
So, here's what the cover of the new book looks like:
also if you're interested, here's my No-Fail jogging mix:

1. Who Was In My Room Last Night?- Butthole Surfers - you have to listen to this track first, the rest the order isn't so important.
2.Party Up (Up in Here) - DMX
3.Bamboo Banga -MIA
4. Love Lockdown- Kanye West
5.A-Punk- Vampire Weekend
6.Ace Of Spades- Motorhead
7. Run To the Hills -Iron Maiden
8. Single Ladies- Beyonce
9. E-Pro -Beck
10. Lust for Life- Iggy Pop.

Canzine West!

Hello friends!  This upcoming weekend is going to be the Coming-Out party for my travelog from europe!  I'll be selling it at Canzine West on Saturday the 17th, and I'm super pumped.  I was at Canzine last year and it was pretty much the best thing ever.  This year it will be downtown instead of in east van, which is kind of annoying since I live in east van now.  The show is also the same weekend as the East Side Culture Crawl, of which my homeboy Colin will be showing his amazing sculptures in again.  This year he will be showing the completed Emperor's Cabinet, his giant mahogany AT AT that made such a great splash last year.  Check it out at www.colinrhino.blogspot.com .   It is pretty fricken amazing.  We will also be selling the bunnies that we made together, plus some nifty racing cutting boards, and the Mr. Joe Bangles line of wooden bracelets.  Colin works out of the East Van Woodworkers co-op in the Mergatroid building.

Inktober staff meetings and such

These are my last couple of drawings for Inktober.  I didn't nearly draw a picture every day, and no excuses!  I was busy, I had family visiting, blah blah blah.  The point of the activity is to give yourself goals and deadlines and get motivated, therefore learning how to make time to draw and develop good habits.  Despite not drawing EVERY day, I am really happy with what I did draw and I hope you liked em too!

November is going to be a busy month, I'm showing my comics on November 17 at Broken Pencil's Canzine West! I hope to have a BIG TASTY FULL COLOUR 50 PAGE COMIC of my Europe trip journal, that will inevitably be expensive to make.  I might buy a colour laser printer.

INKtober!

Did you know that October is international INKtober month??  draw a new ink drawing every day for the month of October....inky!  I've decided that I'm getting on this train, although I missed the first day here's October 2nd and 3rd.  I think I'll be posting every couple of days instead of every day because scanning sucks.

Europe on $100 a day!

Hello friends!
I have returned from my eye-opening and entertaining tour of Europe with my parents and my aunt and uncle.  We went through 5 countries and 5 weeks, and I did 50 pages of sketchbook journaling!  I am planning to get them all photoshopped up nice, flesh it out with a bit of afterthoughts and print it up nice for presents for my parents, and maybe sell it at Canzine west in november?

These are raw pages, I only adjusted the contrast to make it clearer.

Hawaii Drawrins!

Hello fans!
It's been a while, Colin and I uprooted our atrophied pile of hoardings from our apartment of 7 years and moved all our precious crap to a new apartment across town, then I went to visit my pal Andria in hawaii!  In a mere 6 days, I will be travelling through Europe with my parents for over a month (!) and hopefully will do some nice drawings while i'm there.  My history with drawing on the road is spotty, this recent trip to hawaii I did some of my most diligent road drawings, I think because there was a lot of sitting around.  Usually I am too busy or tired to do much except make some notes and doodles to finish at home.  I can't really draw in a moving vehicle, and most of the time when you're travelling you're doing stuff all day and visiting.  The experience was super relaxing, as vacations are supposed to be.  Andria and I rode bikes, sat around, drank coffee, sat around, went swimming and rode bikes.  did I mention bikes?  Oh yea, we went to Target.  I love Target.   Andria has been living in Pupukea, on the north shore of Oahu, so there's not much out there but lots of colour, literally and metaphorically.
I bought a little watercolour set to be all Victorian style on my trip to Europe, and I brought it with me and road-tested it in hawaii.  The paper in the fancy moleskine book I bought is kinda waxy and I was dissapointed that the watercolours kinda bead up, but if you erase the paper and kind of let the paint soak it a bit, then it starts to work, but still not great..  poop.  I have a pack of 5x7 watercolour paper I might bring along to europe and use that insteaders.

Colin is famous

My main man, Colin recently collaborated on a project with noted sacramento painter, Skinner. Colin met him at APE con in San Francisco last fall. They decided Colin would build two of his wooden robots, and send them both to Skinner. He would paint both and send one back to Colin. The bot we got back made it in to Skinner's new art book, "every Man Is My Enemy"!

I'm on spring break from work right now, and Colin and I have been watching Dexter....the last couple of episodes we've been doing doodles of the characters while we watch and it's been really fun.

Seargent Doakes: This is one of my favorites even though it's super messy. Dexter and his sister Debra...I think Deb is our favorite to draw, she has such a great face.

Cold blooded best friend Miguel.
