new cover for new comic!  contents:  New Life, Old Life.

I like this little juxtaposition.  only a few pages apart in my sketchbook are the last drawing I did of Colin while we were togther, followed by the second drawing I did of Davin.  I liked how the drawings were so similar, and they bookend this comic that bridges the two chapters of my life.  I'm not done photoshopping the drawings in so don't mind the gross eraser marks.  please.

Undateable

In September, Ivanhoe, a good friend of mine and Atli's, moved permanently to Vancouver from Lincoln, Nebraska.  He's been living with me since May, and also legally changed his name to Ivanhoe Ivanhoe.  To celebrate we went out drinking at a divey bar in Chinatown called The Ivanhoe, and afterwards slithered into a nearby McDonald's where the following happened:

Mixing Genres

I've been hanging out with Davin in the park again, this time recording the ambiant sounds for his music projects.  Just for the record, he's not a goth any more...more of a recovering goth.  As he said himself: "there's no Cure for my Robert Smith disease,"

Music to my dudes

Remember this doodle I posted way back in 2006?
I drunkely scrawled it as a birthday card for Steve Beddell on his 24th birthday rock show at the Arts Club.
Well, 8 years later, Steve and I are still pals, and he's got a fantastic solo project called Wooden Horseman, which you can check out at www.woodenhorsemanmusic.com

I saw him play a few times and was always blown away by this song called "Black Hair" about a weird girl he knew who climbed up a tree in the middle of the night, and fell out, only to avoid breaking her neck from the height by getting impaled on a branch.   I am going to assume she recovered.
Last Friday night I spontaneously met up with Davin in Trout Lake park at 2am after a night shift at Benny's.   We climbed up a tree to about 30 feet up, which was exhilarating, but I was terrified Davin was going to fall out because he was total drunk!
Sitting in the crook of the tree with the moonlight, and his black hair and black eyes, I though about people falling out of trees and I thought, "woah, this is just like Steve's song!"

The next day I did this little painting
The words to the song are:
Black hair on black eyes
She looks away from the sunlight
Climb in her heart like a gold mine
Climbing a tree at midnight
Drawn to the crease
that you folded in me.

I think I might move the lyrics down to the bottom of the painting and build up some more layers.   Go buy the song on iTunes and support my pals, ok?

New adventures in old adventures!

Hey fanbase!!

Remember 4 years ago I made this comic about breaking my finger and the subsequent related misadventures that happened with it?  And I didn't quite get along to the misadventures part?  Yeah, Since I finished my bike journal recently, I started drawing on that shizznit again.
So my lofty goal is to finish at least 22 more pages (I have about 5 done out of 22 so far), print up a trade paper back and sell it at APE con in San Francisco come October.  Bam.

Alaskan King Crab attack!

Now that I've finished my bike journal I can get back into the ole' back burner!
this is a comic I started last summer for Dear Diaryahh 4 that never made it in.  It concerns the illustrious Congee Noodle House on broadway where Atli and I hash out our lives.  One night we were there and the forces of life and death met in a crazy singularity.

Here's another pencil and ink sketch I did of Davin.  He's on a grid because he's a futurist.

More dude

This is a little portrait of Davin, the fellow from my hourly comic day.
He likes synthesizers, dressing up in three piece suits, old timey masculinity, futuristic sci fi miscellanea, and cooking.
He only wears black, grey, brown and blue.
He also has one of  the nicest vocabularies of anyone I know, which degrades into some of the most unintelligible gibberish drunk texts I've ever received.

The Dudeliest

Hello Fan base

Hey 2014!  what a year!  Right out of the gate in February big changes were afoot for me, the summer was a rollercoaster I referred to as my "Summer of Sex and Violence" documented in an illustrated journal that I started on July 1st after Colin and I parted ways after 12 years of cohabitation.  In august, Atli and I rode our bikes to San Fransisco, and when I got home I ripped the band-aid off and Colin and I moved out of our apartment permanently.  I will always care for Colin and he will be family to me for the rest of my life, but 12 years is a long time.
You might be able to gather from the title of my summer journal that the last few months have been somewhat dude-centric.  Without getting into details, I have been very lucky.  These are a couple of little paintings I've done inspired by some of the lovely souls I've met or gotten to know better or just simply admired in the summer glare.

I love me some chuck taylors.

this painting was the cover of Dear Diaryaah 4.  dude party.
